Iran’s tribal costumes on show in Tehran

Iranology Foundation in Iran’s capital Tehran has put on display a collection of Iranian tribal garments.

Organized by Iranian artist and researcher Shahin Ebrahimzadeh-Pezeshki, the exhibition features some 25 Iranian tribal costumes purchased from different regions of the country.

According to Ebrahimzadeh-Pezeshi who is an expert in the field of traditional and tribal clothing, the purpose of holding the exhibition is “to create an opportunity to familiarize the young generation with these clothes, that clothing is one of the valuable manifestations to show the cultural roots of countries.”

Ebrahimzadeh-Pezeshi, who believes that establishing a permanent clothing museum is a must, also emphasized how paying attention to the symbols and motifs of traditional garments will result in a rich encyclopedia of these works.

“The clothes of Iranian ethnic groups are designed and sewn by educated artists in different periods, under the influence of historical, political and geographical circumstances,” she said.

The exhibition, which was opened on January 31, will wrap up on February 10, 2022.
